Plot Synopsis
Gin receives a request from Tsukuyo, saying that the legendary courtesan of unrivaled beauty and proficiency in all the arts, Tsusen, has named Gin as the person she wishes to see. Filled with anticipation, he heads to Yoshiwara, but instead of the rumoured beauty that can bring down a nation, the person who appears is an elderly woman whose days are numbered.
"I will come to see you again when the moon is high." Gin and Tsukuyo learn from Hinowa that the old woman clings to a promise she made with her beloved in the past and still insists on staying in Yoshiwara. They each begin to search for clues about the identity of her beloved. Soon after, the Yorozuya trio gathers rumors related to Tsusen's client and discovers that the former Shogun, Tokugawa Sada Sada, is involved in this matter.
To confirm this, Gin and the others seek out the current Shogun, Tokugawa Shige Shige's sister, Soyo Hime (Princess Soyo). Using the pretext that Kagura, the princess's friend, has invited them, they sneak into Edo Castle. However, a series of attacks on high-ranking officials of the shogunate by unidentified assailants has put the castle in a state of martial law, with Mimawarigumi, led by Sasaki Isaburou, keeping a close watch.
To move freely within the castle, Gin and his companions start a game of kicking the can as a disguise. To their horror, a can strikes Shige Shige on the forehead. As they frantically attempt to destroy the evidence, Sada Sada comes to visit Shige Shige.
While they desperately try to hide their mishap and keep the conversation going, Tsukuyo tactfully inquires, "Does the lord still remember Tsusen?" At this point, Sada Sada begins to reveal astonishing facts about a conspiracy that shook the foundations of the shogunate.
